Wanting to spend time rug hooking with others is why the Magdalena Rug Hookers came to be. Our two-year old group is not large, but we bring together an interesting mix of fiber art backgrounds and interests. Some of us are primarily quilters, others are weavers or knitters, but there’s just something about rug hooking that bonds us.
When we meet once a month, we share what we have been working on, and what we may have learned at a workshop or a visit to an exhibition. Our favorite thing to do is the “throw down” of our latest work both finished and in progress. It’s always inspiring to see the different designs and how they are being interpreted in wool.
This past weekend many of us spent a relaxing time at Copper Beech Manor B&B in Lewisburg, PA. What a beautiful spot for our first retreat as a group. We even had two brand-new rug hookers with us!
Webster’s dictionary defines a retreat as: “a period of group withdrawal for prayer, meditation, study and instruction under a director,”. While members of our group did some of that, here’s what also happened:
We enjoyed the beautiful grounds of the B&B; we hooked; we walked into town for dinner; we hooked; we went to a huge antiques mall; we hooked; we drank a bit of wine in the evenings; we hooked; we checked out the sidewalk sales and Brew-B-Que on Saturday; and we hooked. It was a great weekend with beautiful weather and good friends. We even managed to have a throw down of our work before we left on Sunday.
There’s a lot of beauty out there, and we saw lots of it this weekend at Copper Beech Manor B&B!
