I can't say "No"!

I rarely say no to a challenge, so when Lori Brechlin presented a rug hooking challenge on her Facebook group, Out of Hand Rug Hookers, I, of course, said “Yes!”

She posted files of her own design motifs that we were to use.  We can use all of them or just a few, but no other additions of our own. We are to create an original design and decide how to hook it.  Embellishments, colors, wool or other materials, are ours to choose.

I originally had a design in mind using her whale motif.  I drew out what I thought was a clever design, but there was just something not quite right about it.  I put that aside, played around with some different motifs and came up with my “Be Mine” design.

I’ve mentioned in the past that I love hearts.  I have many of them around the house.  They sit in bowls and hang on cupboard doors.  Hearts are happy.  My “Be Mine” design depicts a woman with a basket full of Valentines.  Ah, love…

I’m having fun using a variety of techniques in this rug.  Most of it is hooked using #8 and #8.5 wool cloth strips, but I crocheted ruffles on her cuffs and wove the basket with #9 strips.  There is something about this challenge that has given me the freedom to experiment and I’m loving it!  We have until the beginning of January to complete our rugs, but at the rate I’m going, I’ll be finished with this in a week or two.

After I finish this piece, I will begin the Barn Project challenge.  Did I mention that I can’t say no to a challenge?

There’s a lot of beauty out there and in the freedom to create.
