Today I leave to attend Rug Hooking Week at Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio. This is THE rug hooking event of the year and draws countless rug hookers from far and wide. Some of the most popular things to do during the week are: take retreats and workshops; look in amazement at hundreds and hundreds of hooked rugs and featured exhibits which fill the huge gallery; attend gallery talks; network with other rug hookers; learn new techniques; visit the historic area of Sauder Village and on and on. It’s an amazing week sure to spark the creative soul of all who attend.
Judy Carter will be a featured artist with an exhibit of her incredible hooked rugs. I believe I read that there will be fifty of her more than one hundred rugs on display. She will be teaching a retreat and workshop, giving a gallery talk, and signing her book, Hooking Animals.
Another featured exhibit that I’m excited to see is Susan Feller’s Year Long Study of Daily Squares. Each of 365 days is represented by a 5” square showing Susan’s many textile techniques. I’ve seen some of these in person and they are amazing. Susan will be giving a gallery talk and will also teach a workshop on rug finishing techniques.
The work of Maryanne Lincoln (1937-2003) will be on display. This will be a tribute to her work as a professional colorist, textile artist, and authority on dyeing. In honor of this exhibit, Rug Hooking Magazine has reissued Maryanne’s dye book in limited quantities and it will be available at Rug Hooking Week.
This is my first time spending the entire week at Sauder Village. I will be taking a couple of workshops, attending a gallery talk, and helping out at the Rug Hooking Magazine booth. Let’s turn our virtual friendship into a real one. Stop by the booth and say hello! Check in with my Facebook business page for updates during the week ( and give it a "Like" if you haven't done so already!)
There’s a lot of beauty out there and at Sauder Village this week!
