Sauder Village Rug Hooking Week began with the setting up of Rug Hooking Magazine's booth. This is a clever- yet a bit complicated- set up, but with four of us working as a team we got it set up by Monday evening. (Finishing touches were done Tuesday morning.) We then hopped into the large gallery to hang the Celebration XXV rugs. What a treat to see them close up and personal.
A reception celebrating the 25th anniversary of RHM was on Tuesday evening. There were refreshments and excitement as those in attendance could also get a preview of the show rugs. The show and vendor areas were opened to the public on Wednesday morning and Founders Hall was packed with happy shoppers and rug enthusiasts. The flow of visitors continued all week.
I took a Wednesday evening workshop given by Lanna Omlor, in which I made a fun pinkeep with a mohair mouse on top. I know I will be making more of these! I attended a Thursday evening gallery talk by Judy Carter, who discussed her amazing rug hooking journey. On Friday and Saturday I took a workshop given by Linda Pietz, titled "Snowflake Mandala". This was a really fun way to create a pattern, which I then color planned and began hooking. I got quite a good start on it.
There have been many photos of the Sauder Village rug show posted on Facebook, but below are a few that I took. With over seven hundred rugs on display there was a lot to see and enjoy. I must admit that I prefer to observe things without a camera held up to my face and my photos are not very good. I think I need a new and better camera for those rare times when I do want to use one.
There's a lot of beauty out there and at Sauder Village during Rug Hooking Week!
P.S. Tune in next Monday when I will be doing a BOOK GIVEAWAY!
